Mess Water Conservation Project

The Mess Water Conservation Project was an initiative taken by the Environmental club of my school. This Project was kindled under the light of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations, one of them being- Sustainable Cities and Communities. Students came together to try to prevent wastage of drinking water in the school mess by supplying the leftover water after a meal to the plants around campus. Post the meal, all the remaining drinking water inside jugs and glasses was collected and measured. Later, all of this water was provided to the green spaces around the mess in hopes of restoring groundwater levels and preventing wastage of water that otherwise would have gone into the drain. As a result, we were able to conserve an average of 45 litres of drinking water on a daily basis, which in our humility, is a progressive step towards turning our school community into a sustainable ecosystem. This project would bear fruit evermore if we could inspire people to take such action around their communities so as to restore our water table.
